To provide a template material for quartz glass and a method of molding the quartz glass by which the residual strain of the quartz glass obtained by forming the quartz glass into a prescribed shape is minimized and the quartz glass.
In the template material provided with a cylindrical body in which the quartz glass to be formed is inserted and an outside frame member and having a top plate and a bottom plate provided to close the upper and lower end parts of the cylindrical body, the linear expansion coefficient of the outside frame member is ≤9×107. In the method of forming the quartz glass, the residual internal strain of the glass after forming is minimized by using the template material for the quartz glass using a member selected with the linear expansion coefficient taken into consideration. As the residual internal strain of the glass is remarkably low, the annealing time after forming can be shortened.
