PURPOSE: To prevent a scratch and a position slippage of a web by composing a regulation device to regulate the pressing force of a tension regulating roll in the width direction depending on the bending amount of the web edge detected by edge detectors to watch the sides of the web.
CONSTITUTION: Edge detectors 5 and 6 are provided facing the edges E1 and E2 of a web W, and when the slippage of the web edges is small from the set positions of the edge detectors 5 and 6 to a specific web width, it is judged the tension is even in the width direction practically. On the other hand, when the slippage is large, it is judged that a sagging is generated at the opposite side of the slippage meandered to the slippage side, and a driving signal is given to a cylinder 4 to press the web stronger at the opposite side. And when the meandering is corrected depending on the signals received from the both edge detectors 5 and 6, the reinforcement of the pressing force of a tension regulating roll 3 to the web W by the cylinder 4 is stopped.
