To obtain a textile material excellent in pliability and water absorptivity when using a biodegradable agent by applying a specific fatty acid ester of a disaccharide to a cellulosic fiber-containing textile material.
A textile material containing at least 10 wt.% of cellulosic fibers is padded with a treating liquid containing any of a fatty acid monoester, diester or triester of a disaccharide comprising a constituent saccharide composed of sucrose and a constituent fatty acid composed of an 8-22C (un)saturated fatty acid specifically at least one kind selected from the group of caprylic acid, capric acid, stearic acid, palmitic acid, myristic acid, oleic acid, lauric acid, behenic acid and erucic acid and having residual hydroxyl group in a part thereof and a crosslinking agent, and then heat-treated at 80-200°C to fix the fatty acid ester of the disaccharide in an amount of 0.01-10 wt.% based on the fiber weight thereto.
