PURPOSE: To decrease the consumption of an uptaking agent and remove hydrogen chloride with good efficiency by sending the uptaking agent separated in a dust collector into a water tank, eluting the stuck calcium chloride into water and regenerating the uptaking agent.
CONSTITUTION: Municipal refuse 1 is sent by a screw conveyor 2 to a thermal decomposition furnace 3 of a fluidized bed type. In this furnace, the hydrogen chloride produced by the thermal decomposition of the refuse is catalytically reacted with a calcium-based hydrogen chloride uptaking agent consisting of at least one component among calcium carbonate, calcium hydroxide, and calcium oxide. The hydrogen chloride is stuck as calcium chloride on the uptaking agent, and goes by being entrained in the evolved gas via a conduit 14, to cyclones 15, 16, where it is uptaken together with dusts and is stored in a tank 23. This mixture 22 is charged into a water tank 29, and when it is stirred, the dusts float and the uptaking agent 36 stuck with calcium chloride settles. The stuck calcium chloride is dissolved in water and the uptaking agent insoluble in water is recovered.
