The thermal head printer includes: a loading part 3 in which a print paper 100 is loaded; a transfer part 4 to transfer the print paper, and including a platen roller 15; an ejecting part 24 from which the print paper is ejected; a ribbon drive part 6 that supplies an ink ribbon; the head mechanism part 5 that includes a printing head 22 performing printing with respect to the print paper, and that is moved among at least three moving positions, which are first, second and third moving positions; a first drive cam 25 that moves the head mechanism part between the first moving position and second moving position; and a second drive cam 27 that moves the head mechanism part between the second moving position and the third moving position. An amount by which the head mechanism part moves over a distance between the second moving position and third moving position is smaller than between the first moving position and second moving position. The second drive cam has a smaller outside shape than the first drive cam.
