To provide a thermal head that has high design flexibility, is low cost and difficult to cause short circuit in connecting the driver IC and each wiring, and is surely able to generate heat according to the print data of each heating element, and to provide a thermal printer.
The thermal head includes: a first substrate 110a where a plurality of heating elements 145, each has a heater, an individual electrode 118, and a common electrode are provided; a second substrate 110b where an external connection terminal and the connection wiring 112a extended from the external connection terminal are provided; and a driver IC 120 mounted over each substrate 110a, 110b. In the driver IC 120, the first bump electrode 135a and the second bump electrode 135b provided for the active surface 120c are connected to the individual electrode 118 and the connection wiring 112a, respectively.
