PURPOSE: To compactize the equipment along with a simplified construction by integrating a sensor for detecting the end of a transfer paper or a marker of a coloring material layer with a thermal head.
CONSTITUTION: A thermal head 22 for thermal transfer recording is provided integrally with a sensor 11 comprising a light emitting diode 11b and a photo transistor 10c at both ends thereof. The thermal head 22 is pressed on a paper feed roller 2 through an image receiving paper 1a and a transfer paper 1b to feed the transfer paper 1b and the image receiving paper 1a while a heat generating body 9a emits heat according to a picture signal to transfer cyan C. Then, when the sensor 11 detects a color material layer marker 1c, the roller 2 is halted while being released from the pressing by the head 22. Then, the transfer paper 1b is moved in the direction of the arrow to place the coloring material layer of magenta M at the pressing position and the image receiving paper 1a is fed reversely to be placed at the pressing position for transfer. Subsequently, the same operation is done to transfer yellow Y. This simplifies the construction of a running path while miniaturizing the equipment.
