Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide thermal mechanical treatment of precipitation hardening martensitic stainless steels having advantageous mechanical properties that render the alloys suitable for several high performance applications.SOLUTION: A thermal mechanical treatment method includes: hot working a precipitation hardening martensitic stainless steel 26; quenching the stainless steel 28 (30); and aging the stainless steel 32. The stainless steel is not solution heat treated prior to aging 32. The stainless steel is not cryogenically cooled as part of the thermal mechanical treatment method.
