To provide a thermal printer configured so that a user can correct the positional deviation ΔQ1 and ΔQ2 of a printing paper (continuous label body 14) when transporting the printing paper, the tip 14A of the printing paper 14 is located at the printing start position of a printing unit 5, then, printing can be started from a first paper piece (label piece 18), thereby, preventing the useless consumption of the printing paper 14, and to provide a device and method for correcting the printing paper position for the thermal printer.

By taking notice that the positional deviation of printing paper 14 is corrected after setting the printing paper 14 at a printing start position of a printing unit 5, the printing paper 14 can be set at the printing start position of the printing unit 5 by transporting the printing paper 14 forward when the printing paper 14 is detected by a first paper sensor, and transporting the printing paper 14 backward when the printing paper 14 is detected by a second paper sensor (downstream sensor 26), and the deviation ΔQ1 of the printing position from the required printing position P of print data to be printed on the printing paper 14 by the printing unit 5 is corrected, and then, the printing paper 14 is transported to be printed thereon.
