To provide a thermal printer which can smoothly automatically feeds paper in consideration of a mutual friction coefficient of a platen and a thermal head.
The paten 2 includes: a shaft G; and an elastic cylinder body 3s mounted on the shaft G. The elastic cylinder body 3s is formed of two kinds of rubber materials with different friction coefficients. The two kinds of rubber materials with the different friction coefficients have outer surfaces which form roller surfaces 3r with mutual cooperation of the different material parts 3A1, 3A2. The outer surfaces have different motion friction coefficients with respect to a head surface 2h of the thermal head 2. As the two kinds of rubber materials with the different friction coefficients, a part in a normal grade (A1)... a silicon rubber (hardness:40), and a part in a low friction grade (A2)... an HTV material, what is called, a high temperature vulcanizing silicon rubber with low friction (hardness:50) are applicable.
