PURPOSE: To obtain a high quality image having no rough feeding, by making the quantity feeding a recording medium by one line in a sub-scanning direction almost equal to the protruding width of a heat generating part in the sub-scanning direction.
CONSTITUTION: Photosensitive polyimide varnish is applied to an aluminum substrate 2 by a spinner and a predetermined pattern is projected on the varnish layer to perform exposure and, subsequently, development and thermosetting are applied to the exposed layer to form the first heat accumulating layer 3a, for example, having the width of 150μm and a thickness of 10μm. Next, the same polyimide varnish is applied by the spinner and thermally set to form the second heat accumulating layer 3b, for example, having the thickness of 10μm. The second layer 3b contributes to the thickness of a heat accumulating layer 3 and makes the cross-sectional shape of the first layer 3a gentle and further insulates the substrate from the resistor 4 and electrode 5 formed thereon. The part 1 having no electrode 5 mounted thereon of the resistor 4 generates Joule heat. When the quantity (x) feeding a recording medium by one line in a sub-scanning direction is made almost equal to the protruding width (w) of the heat generating part of a thermal head in the sub-scanning direction, an excellent image quality is obtained.
