Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal switch capable of efficiently controlling transmission of heat without unnecessarily consuming electrical energy or the like.SOLUTION: A thermal switch 10a includes a heat transfer medium 14, a dielectric substance 16, a first electrode 17, and a control section 19. The heat transfer medium 14 is provided so as to be inserted into and detached from a gap 13 between facing two objects 11 and 12. The dielectric substance 16 is provided at least on one of an interface of the two objects 11 and 12 or a flat curve surface including the interface. The first electrode 17 is provided along the dielectric substance 16. The control section 19 controls application of voltage to the first electrode 17 and the dielectric substance 16. The dielectric substance 16 insulates the first electrode 17 and the heat transfer medium 14. The control section 19 generates an electro-wetting phenomenon by applying voltage to the first electrode 17 and the dielectric substance 16, and controls insertion and detachment of the heat transfer medium 14, and switches heat transmission or heat insulation between the two objects 11 and 12.
