PURPOSE: To enhance rubbing resistance and clearness, by providing a heat- softenable ink layer comprising a specified thermoplastic resin, a heat-fusible lubricant and a coloring agent on a colorless or light-colored thermal fusion transfer layer provided on a base and comprising a thermoplastic resin.
CONSTITUTION: A colorless or light-colored thermal fusion transfer layer A comprising a wax and a thermoplastic resin compatible therewith is provided on a base consisting of a polyester film, polysulfone or the like, by hot-melt coating. Next, a heat-softenable ink layer B comprising a thermoplastic resin incompatible with the wax in the layer A and becoming adhesive when being heated, a heat-fusible lubricant and a coloring agent is provided on the transfer layer A by hot-melt coating to produce a thermal transfer medium. The wax and the resin in the layer A are used in amounts of 55W95wt.% and 5W50wt.%, respectively, based on the layer A. The resin and the lubricant in the layer B are used in amounts of 50W90wt.% and 2W30wt.%, respectively, based on the layer B.
