To provide a thermal-transfer printer having an information leakage preventing means for preventing the leakage of an afterimage of an ink ribbon used, which is easy to maintain and manage.
The thermal-transfer printer comprises a printing unit for conducting thermal-transfer printing by a thermal head 3 through the ink ribbon having a dye layer, a first bending member 7a for bending the ink ribbon after conducting the thermal transfer, and a second bending member 7b disposed separately from the first bending member 7a and having at least one sharpened top part protruding to the upper surface side of the ink ribbon in such a manner that a bending line is formed at the used ink ribbon conveyed from the first bending member 7a by its top part. The thermal-transfer printer comprises a second bending member 7b and a heating unit 8 for folding the ink ribbon conveyed from the second bending member 7b along the bending line and fusion-bonding the opposed dye layers of the folded ink ribbon.
