PURPOSE: To enable a stop position of a head to be fixed while performing control of up-down shift of a printing head and control of take-up of an ink ribbon by a single controlling system, by a construction wherein a peripheral cam and an end cam of a cam wheel are provided with notched parts into which cam followers making sliding contact with the cams can be respectively engaged, at predetermined positions thereof.
CONSTITUTION: A protuberant part 12 of the end cam 14 and a horizontal extension part 18 of the peripheral cam 20 are provided with the notched parts 13, 19 into which the first and second cam followers 58, 82 can be engaged, at substantially central positions thereof. When a DC motor 30 is stopped, the cam wheel 6 tends to continue rotating due to the inertia thereof, but when the notched part 19 comes to a position corresponding to the position of the second cam follower 82 and when the notched part 13 comes to a position corresponding to the position of the first cam follower 58, the cam followers 82, 58 are engaged respectively into the notched parts 19, 13, thereby stopping the cam wheel 6. Accordingly, the stop positions in the up-down shift of the head can be constantly fixed.
