PURPOSE: To perform the recording of an image at always stable density without receiving the effect of temp., by surrounding the recording part in a thermal transfer recording apparatus by a heat insulating member and forcibly keeping the atmospheric temp. in said apparatus constant.

CONSTITUTION: The recording part consisting of the thermal head 3 and the platen 4 in a thermal transfer recording apparatus is surrounded by a housing 5 comprising a heat insulating member and heating and cooling elements 6, 7 for keeping the atmospheric temp. in the housing 5 constant are respectively inlaid with the upper and lower wall surfaces of said housing 5. Further, in the housing 5, a temp. sensor for detecting the internal temp. of said housing 5 is provided and may be attached to the surface of the head 3 or that of the platen 4. Therefore, by always keeping the diameter of a molten ink dot constant without receiving the effect of external temp. at all, the recording of an image having good image quality can be obtained at stable density.
