To obtain an image excelling in preservability such as fixability and light fastness by providing a thermal transfer material having specified pigments on a supporting body, superposing an image receiving material on the thermal transfer material, and forming an image by heating the thermal transfer material in accordance with image information.
A pigment providing material 6 is structured by providing a pigment providing layer 5 that becomes a thermal transfer material having pigments that are expressed by the formula on a supporting body 4, and an image receiving material provided with an image receiving layer 2 including a compound containing metal ions is superposed on the supporting body 1. And then an image is formed by giving heat to a heating resistor 8 borne on a thermal head 7 from the rear side of the pigment providing material 6 and separating both materials 3, 6. In the formula, Z1, Z2 indicate a group of carbon atoms necessary for forming aromatic carbon rings and a group of atoms forming 5 or 6 heterocycles; Q represents 5 or 6 aromatic carbon rings and heterocycles.
