To obtain the subject fluoropolymer capable of improving characteristics at a high temperature without requiring a specific apparatus or the like by thermally cross-linking a fluoropolymer having a specified functional group, and thermoplastic and melt-processable before the cross-linking.
(A) A fluoropolymer having a pendant functional group, and thermoplastic and melt-processable before the cross-linking is thermally cross-linked preferably in the presence of (B) a cross-linking accelerator (preferably a nucleophilic material, e.g. an amine). The cross-linking of the component A is preferably carried out by binding the component A with the nucleophilic material before finishing the melt molding of the component A to a molding product, and finishing the melt molding of the bound product or by carrying out the melt molding of the component A to provide the molding product, injecting the component B into the obtained molding product at the temperature bellow the melting point of the component A, and heating the molding product with the injected component B. As the result the fluoropolymer can be thermally cross-linked without requiring the initiation of the cross-linking by using a catalyst or ionizing radiation, and the characteristics of the fluoropolymer can be improved.
