PURPOSE: To obtain a thermally recoverable article, and a production method thereof, in which high airtightness, waterproofness, corrosion resistance, etc., can be sustained even if thermal variation takes places upon finishing the coating.
CONSTITUTION: The thermally recoverable article is composed of a thermosetting resin and an inner layer of polymer gel is formed on the inside of a thermally recoverable outer layer. The thermally recoverable article is produced by extrusion molding the inner and outer layers simultaneously, selectively cross-linking the outer layer and then imparting the thermal recovering properties to the outer layer. Consequently, the polymer gel sustains the gel state over a wide temperature range. It does not flow easily but is soft and fitted tightly to an object through thermal recovery. The tightly fitted state is sustained even if it is subjected to thermal variation.
