PURPOSE: To obtain a thermit type welding rod which is safely and easily usable without requiring electricity and gas by enveloping an iron core with thermit, mounting an igniting agent to the top end and coating the outer circumference with a coating material, thereby constituting the welding rod.
CONSTITUTION: The iron core A is circumferentially enclosed with the thermit B consisting of a mixture composed of aluminum and iron oxide and the igniting agent D consisting of magnesium is mounted to the top end. The outer circumference thereof is coated with the coating material C, by which the welding rod is constituted. Welding with this welding rod is executed by igniting the igniting agent D at the top end thereof to fire the thermit B and melting the base metal and iron core by the reaction heat thereof while concentrating heat by the coating material C on the surface.
