PURPOSE: To obtain composition having combustion resistance exceeding the U.S.A. National Aeronautics Administration standards by forming composition using major quantities of woven glass cloth, flame retardant polycarbonate copolymers and core layers of non-flame retardant thermoplastic resins.
CONSTITUTION: When preparing the fire-proofing and thermoformable composites by melting and impregnating polycarbonates into the composites of two to four sheets of fiber reinforced cloth under heating and pressure condition, it is proceeded as follows: namely, the objective composites are obtained by comprising (a) at least 50 wt.% woven glass cloth, (b) flame retardant polycarbonate copolymers and (c) at least one core layer of non-flame retardant thermoplastic resins. The prescribed composites are fire-proofing and thermoformable composites comprising glass cloth of at least 50 wt.% and flame retardant matrix material, contg. flame retardant polycarbonate resins, of up to 50 wt.%.
