Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a thermoplastic polyurethane having a specific structure, a specific molecular weight, a specific gel content and excellent light resistance, oleic acid resistance, hydrolysis resistance and alcohol resistance and useful for coating agent, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The polyurethane having a molecular weight of 30,000-200,000 and a gel content of ≤5% is produced by extending the chain of a prepolymer composed of (A) a tetramethylene carbonate diol having a molecular weight of 500-10,000 and (B) an organic diisocyanate such as aliphatic diisocyanate and having a structure of formula I [n is 1-50; X is group of formula II (n is 3-43); Y is residue of aliphatic diisocyanate] with (C) a chain extender selected from a diol having a molecular weight of ≤300, a diamine, a hydrazine and water. A coating composition can be produced from the polyurethane and an organic solvent. The polytetramethylene carbonate diol of formula III (n is 1-171) can be produced by reacting butanediol with a dialkyl carbonate, etc., in the presence of an acidic compound.
