Title:
THERMOSETTING LITHOGRAPHIC INK MATERIAL CONSISTING MAINLY OF VEGETABLE OIL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3889828
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain without using a solvent a printing ink material having a high solid content, a low content of volatile organic components, high flowability, and high self-structuring ability by incorporating a specific crosslinking agent and a material comprising a dampening water.
SOLUTION: The thermosetting, low-VOC, web offset lithographic ink composition is prepared from a solid resin, a drying alkyd oil, a polymerizable drying oil, a vegetable oil, a fatty acid, a polyfunctional polyester, a reducing agent, and an organic acid salt of a transition metal. The lithographic dampening water contains a hydroperoxide soluble or emulsifiable in water and, upon contact with the ink composition, accelerates its free-radical polymerization. The ink composition is obtained by compounding a first material comprising a pigment, a rosin ester consisting mainly of a vegetable oil, an unsaturated polyester resin having free carboxy groups, a reducing agent, and an organometallic salt as a crosslinking agent with a second material comprising the dampening water containing an organic hydroperoxide or an organic peroxide, in a given proportion.
