Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a thermosetting powder compsn. which comprises a specific polyester and a glycidyl group-contg. acrylic copolymer, forms a film excellent in weatherability and mechanical properties, and is useful for powder paints, powder varnishes or the like.
CONSTITUTION: This compsn. comprises a carboxyl-terminated polyester and a glycidyl group-contg. acrylic copolymer. The polyester is prepd. by reacting at least one polycarboxylic acid other than 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid with at least one aliph. or cycloaliph. polyol and esterifying the resultant hydroxyl-terminated polyester with 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid, has an acid number of 15-70 mgKOH/g, and contains at least 75 mol.% terephthalic acid, at least 10 mol.% 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid, and at most 14 mol.% at least one other arom. and/or aliph. and/or cycloaliph. polycarboxylic acid, based on a total carboxylic acid content of 100 mol.%.
