PURPOSE: To obtain the subject thick malt syrup, containing a specific amount of polysaccharides-based natural paste, having a flat shape, moderate flexibility, powerful tackiness and shape holding properties, capable of readily and closely adhering to the upper and lower palates in the oral cavity without causing loss of shape and useful for relieving thirst or cough.
CONSTITUTION: The objective thick malt syrup, containing 0.2-30wt.% polysaccharides-based natural paste and having a flat shape. Furthermore, the content of the aforementioned natural paste is preferably 0.2-1.0wt.% xanthan gum, 1.0-5.0wt.% pectin and 0.2-1.5wt.% carrageenan. The shape thereof is preferably a quadrilateral flat shape having the length × width × thickness of 15.0-30.0×12.0-25.0×2.0-4.0mm, a circular flat shape having the diameter ×thickness of 15.0-30.0×2.0-4.0mm and an oval flat shape having the minor axis × major axis × thickness of 15.0-25.0×15.0-30.0×2.0-4.0mm.
