PURPOSE: To prevent the deterioration of S/N caused by an off-track, by using a material having high magnetic permeability, for the part corresponding to the reproducing track width of a magnetic pole, and selecting a material whose magnetic permeability is lower than that of the center part of the magnetic pole, for both ends of the magnetic pole.

CONSTITUTION: The titled magnetic head is constituted of a non-magnetic substrate 4, magnetic pole parts 1, 1', and a conductive coil 3. As for the magnetic pole parts 1, 1', a material having high saturation magnetic flux density and high magnetic permeability is placed in magnetic pole center parts 5, 5' seen from a medium opposed face side, and a material having high saturation magnetic flux density and lower magnetic permeability than that of the magnetic pole center parts 5, 5' is placed in both end parts 6, 6' in the magnetic pole track width direction. Accordingly, by a self-sound recording and reproducing head, the track width at the time of recording can be made wider effectively than the track width at the time of reproduction. In such a way, the deterioration of S/N caused by an off-track at the time of reproduction can be prevented.
