To provide a polythiophene derivative having high optical carrier mobility, which is suitable for a thin film material for generation and transfer photoelectric conversion element carriers by a simple and low-cost means.
A polythiophene derivative is refined after generated from a thiophene derivative where a third position is replaced by alkyl group or alkoxyl group by the oxidation polymerization with FeCl3 as an oxidation catalyst. In short, after polymerization, an alkali solution (for example aqueous ammonia) is used for washing to remove an chloride ion of the FeCl3 catalyst. Further, an iron complex forming compound (for example, ethylene-diamine- tetraacetic acid) is used for washing to remove an iron ion of the FeCl3 catalyst. The resulting high-purity polythiophene derivative thin-film is high in optical carrier mobility, being suitable for a material for generation and transfer of photoelectric conversion element optical carriers.
