To provide a thorium-tungsten (Th-W) alloy having Th and/or Th compound dispersed in a state of particles with ≤0.3 μm average particle size, to provide a Th-W wire, its manufacturing method, a coil having improved deformation resistance, and a cathode structure for electron tube.
The Th-W alloy has Th and/or Th compound dispersed in a state of particles in a W matrix, and the content of the Th and/or Th compound is ≥0.5 wt.% and the average particle size of the Th and/or Th compound particles is ≤0.3 μm. The Th-W wire is composed of the above Th-W alloy. The method for manufacturing the Th-W wire comprises steps of: mixing metal W powder and solution of Th and/or Th compound to form a mixture; heating and reducing the mixture in a reducing atmosphere to prepare powder in which particles of the thorium and/or Th compound are dispersed in the W powder; compacting the powder and sintering the resultant green compact to prepare a sintered compact; and applying rolling and wire drawing to the sintered compact. The coil is composed of the above Th-W wire. The cathode structure for electron tube has a structure in which a heating filament is supported between a couple of supporting members, and this heating filament is composed of the above Th-W wire.
