PURPOSE: To enable character input through easy operation, not to mention three-dimensional input, by providing a contact switch at one end of a main body and also providing an accelerometer and a vertical and horizontal switch longitudinally along a rod shape.

CONSTITUTION: The contact switch 21, the accelerometer 22, the horizontal and vertical switch 23, and a detection part 24 are provided in a housing 2. The contact switch 21 is provided with a contactor 25 in a projecting state and when the contactor 25 is made to abut on a contact surface and further pressed in, the contact switch 21 turns ON to enable the character input. When the main body 1 is held horizontally, the horizontal and vertical switch 23 detects the horizontal attitude, so this device operates as a three-dimensional position detection device which uses the accelerometer 22. When the main body 1 is held vertically, on the other hand, the horizontal and vertical switch 23 detects the vertical attitude and the device enters a pen mode. When the contactor 25 at the tip abuts on the contact surface, the switch turns ON, so that characters can be inputted only in the contact state.
