Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a three-terminal optical signal control element having a sandwich-type configuration formed by connecting two semiconductor optical amplifiers by an AWG (Arrayed Waveguide Grating) optical filter and capable of providing wavelength-converted optical AND/optical NOT signals.SOLUTION: An AWG optical filter 16 disposed between a first semiconductor optical amplification element 14 and a second semiconductor optical amplification element 18 has a plurality of crests and troughs where a transmission factor is changed with respect to the wavelength. The AWG optical filter transmits first output light Iout1 as signal light with a second wavelength λ2, output from the first semiconductor optical amplification element 14 to the second semiconductor optical amplification element 18, reflects first input light Iin1 with a first wavelength λ1 from the first semiconductor optical amplification element 14, to the first semiconductor optical amplification element 14, and reflects control light Ic input from the output side of the second semiconductor optical amplification element 18, to the second semiconductor optical amplification element 18. Consequently, the second output light Iout2 as the wavelength-converted optical AND signal and the first output light Iout1 as the optical NOT signal can be acquired from the output side of the second semiconductor optical amplification element 18.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
