PURPOSE: To enable smooth gear change by detecting a gear change stage at the time of traveling and reading the data of a throttle opening with respect to the step-in quantity of an accelerator pedal at that time from a memory means and adjusting the opening of a throttle valve.
CONSTITUTION: In the stopped condition of a vehicle, as an accelerator pedal 21 is stepped in while a gear change position detector 10 is detecting that the gear change position is in the first gear, a throttle opening corresponding to the step-in quantity of the pedal is indexed in accordance with a first gear opening characteristic curve by a CPU 25. And a stepping motor 19 is drivingly controlled while a traveling clutch is connected so as to obtain the corresponding opening. Then, when the vehicle speed is increased and judged to be shifted from the first gear to the second gear according to the output of a vehicle speed sensor 11 and an opening sensor 20, a gear is shiftingly operated and the throttle opening is determined based on a second gear opening characteristic curve.
