To provide a throwaway diaper in which a front waist and a back waist are spreadably formed around the waist of a user when necessary.

The throwaway diaper 1A comprises such portions as the front waist 2, a crotch portion 4, and the back waist 6, and is formed into an underpants type where one waist opening 10 and a pair of leg openings 12 are formed by side edge joints 8 where corresponding side edges of the front waist 2 and the back waist 6 are joined, and has a first fastening portion 28 made of a first mechanical fastener 28a arranged in the inside 38 of the diaper in the vicinity of the side edge joint 8 of the front waist 2, a second fastening portion 29 made of a second mechanical fastener 29a arranged in the outside 39 of the diaper in the vicinity of the side edge joint 8 of the back waist 6 and capable of being engaged with the first mechanical fastener 28a. The diaper can be put on by engaging the fastening portions 28 and 29 with each other after the side edge joints 8 are pulled apart.
