In this thrust bearing which bears a thrust collar mounted on a rotating shaft with a plurality of support plates 132 disposed around the rotating shaft, a synthetic resin material (glass fiber-impregnated PTFE) surface 132a and a hard material surface 132b containing tungsten carbide or chromium carbide are formed on the side which bears the thrust collars of the support plates 132. The resin material surface 132a is placed higher than the hard material surface 132b. The resin material surface 132a usually demonstrates bearing properties favorably working in oil. Even if flooding occurs, the hard material surface 132b inhibits the abrasion of the resin material surface 132a caused by invasion of soil into river water to be equal to or less than the hard material surface.
