PURPOSE: To increase load bearing capacity by clamping a thrust collar fixed to a rotating shaft like a collar form, with a plurality of pads laid circumferentially on both sides of the collar in slidable contact therewith and, then, applying a relief machining process to the slide contact sides of the pads laid at a position downstream of the rotating direction of the collar.
CONSTITUTION: Regarding a pad 1 laid at both sides of a thrust collar 11 for the clamping thereof, a part of slide surface at a position downstream of the rotating direction of the collar 11 is subjected to a radial relief machining process A, and a center pivot type is thereby changed into an offset pivot type. As a result, the center of a pivot 3 to support the pad 1 comes to be eccentric from the center of the support plane of the pad 1 slightly toward the relief processed section A. Thus, an oil film theoretically forming a wedge form is liable to be formed at a position upstream of a contact plane between the pad 1 and the thrust collar 11, and load bearing capacity as a thrust bearing increases, due to oil pressure given from the oil film, thereby preventing a temperature rise in white metal 2.
