Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a light-weight thruster system by providing two or more thrusters actuated by energizing electrodes, and supplying propellant to any one of the thrusters from a single propellant tank via valves switched by switching means.
CONSTITUTION: The described thrust system comprises prime thrusters T1, T2 and redundant thrusters for emergencies T3, T4. The thrusters T1-T4 are supplied with propellant from a propellant tank 1 via valves V1-V4. The valves V1, V2 and V3, V4 are actuated by switches S1, S3 controlled by power supply units PSU1, 2 respectively. Ion thrusters, arc jet thrusters or plasma thrusters may be used for the thrusters T1-T4. Only one of the thrusters T1, T2 (T3, T4) is actuated by the switching of switches S1 (S3).
