To provide a Ti-Al intermetallic compound which prevents its own surface from being oxidized, has a uniform composition as a whole, superior hot strength, and improves a room temperature brittleness that has been a defect of an intermetallic compound, and to provide a simple manufacturing method therefor.

This manufacturing method comprises winding an Al foil and a Ti foil around a coil rod made of Ti while making them into layers to form an Al/Ti jerry roll part (step 1); inserting the Al/Ti jerry roll part into a Cu pipe to make a billet (step 2); further hydrostatic-extruding the billet so as to have the diameter of 10 mm (step 3); then drawing it into a wire with the diameter of 1 mm (step 4); removing the copper of a shell with nitric acid (step 5); and diffusion-heat-treating the product at 700°C for 20 hours in a vacuum (step 6).
