The ticket reader comprises: a case 3 housing a ticket carrier unit 5, a reading unit 6, a drive unit 51, a power unit 71, a control unit 72 for controlling the units, and the like; and a lid 2 pivotally hinged on the case 3. An outlet switching unit 8 is provided to switch the output direction of a ticket with data read therefrom between the rear and downward of the case 3. A marking means comprising a sprocket 54 is provided in the carrier unit 5 to add a mark of processing to the ticket with the data read therefrom.
