PURPOSE: To obtain a time counter without error in counting time in relaying by making a signal of a touch plate effective only when the next swimmer is on a starting block while an inadvertent touch plate signal is made ineffective.
CONSTITUTION: A signal of the detection of the presence of the next swimmer on a starting block 1 is connected to a first input of a time counting circuit 4 and a control circuit 3. A touch plate 2 detects the arrival of a swimmer and an output thereof is connected to second inputs of the time counting circuit 4 and the control circuit 3. The control circuit 3 controls a signal of the touch plate 2 to be inputted from the second input by a starting block 1 signal to be inputted from the first input. In relaying at a relay race, a lap time is counted by the output of the control circuit 3. In other cases, the lap time and finish time are counted by an output signal of the touch plate 2.
