PURPOSE: To enhance long-term stability, by receiving a broadcast radio wave to convert the same by an A/D converter and extracting the characteristics of a sound signal modulated by a receiving radio wave and discriminating the correlation with the characteristics of a sound alarm signal to perform the setting of time.

CONSTITUTION: The output of a receiving circuit 101 receiving a broadcast radio wave is applied to a sound data extracting means 104 through an A/D converter 102. The means 104 extracts the characteristic data of a sound signal modulated by a receiving radio wave to store not only the same in a first memory means 105 but also sound alarm data in a second memory means 106. A correlation discrimination means 107 receives the data stored in the means 105 and the data stored in the means 106 to discriminate the correlation between the characteristics of the signal of receiving sound and that of the signal of a sound alarm. When the correlation value is a predetermined value or more, a detection signal is outputted and automatic correction is performed on the basis of the detection signal so as to shorten the shift of the display time of a timepiece apparatus from a just time. By this method, the error of the timepiece apparatus is eliminated and long-term stability can be enhanced.
