Title:
TITANIUM CLADDING METHOD FOR CARBON STEEL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0565613
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide superior corrosion resistance to the surface of a carbon steel while maintaining the high strength and high toughness characteristic of carbon steel at the time of performing titanium cladding for the carbon steel.

CONSTITUTION: An undercoat layer is formed on the surface of a carbon steel type base material by depositing aluminum onto the surface and flattening the surface, and then, a titanium clad layer is formed on the above by depositing titanium. Further, if necessary, nitriding is done after the formation of the titanium clad layer. Superior corrosion resistance can be obtained by means of the titanium clad layer on the surface and the progress of corrosion into the surface of the carbon steel type base material can be prevented by the existence of the undercoat layer, and further, corrosion resistance can be stabilized by the absorption of the amount of deformation in the upper and the lower layer. By the addition of the formation of titanium nitride, wear resistance can be improved.
