To provide a method for hardening the surface of a titanium material simply improving the hardness in the vicinity of the surface of a titanium material product without causing the peeling of the surface of the product and to provide a product therefrom.
As the powder to be brought into contact with the surface of a titanium material 1, ZrB2 powder is used, and its temp. in the process of heat treatment is regulated, by which Zr, B and O in the alloy powder are diffused into the part 1h inner than the surface 1a of the titanium material to form precipitately hardened products of intermetallic compounds such as TiB, Ti3B4, TiB2 or the like on the surface of the titanium material, and simultaneously, by the solid-solution hardening of Zr, B and O, its surface hardness is improved.
