Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide excellent photochromic characteristics to a titanium oxide based compound by mixing an organotitanium compound with a specific metal compound and burning the mixture in the presence of a sodium compound.
CONSTITUTION: An organotitanium compound is mixed with at least one kind of metal of iron, chromium, copper, nickel, vanadium and manganese or metal compound thereof. The mixture is burned at about 500-750°C in the presence of a sodium compound. Thereby a titanium oxide based compound containing titanium compound of 85.0-98.8wt.% expressed in terms of titanium oxide, sodium compound of 1.0-7.0wt.% expressed in terms of sodium oxide and at least one kind of metal compound of iron, chromium, copper, nickel, vanadium and manganese of 0.02-8.0wt.% expressed in terms of metal oxide is obtained.
