PURPOSE: To obtain the composition, excellent in flame retardancy, heat resistance, etc., and useful as parts, etc., for household appliances by melt extruding a rubber-modified styrenic resin, a halogenated bisphenolic type epoxy resin and an antimony oxide under specific temperature conditions.
CONSTITUTION: This method for producing the objective composition is to melt extrude (A) a rubber-modified styrenic resin (e.g. impact-resistant polystyrene or ABS resin), (B) a halogenated bisphenolic type epoxy resin having preferably a structural formula expressed by formula I [X is Br or Cl; R is lower alkyl; Y is a group expressed by formula II or glycidyl; (i), (j) and (k) are each 0-4; (n) is 0-5] and (C) an antimony oxide at a resin temperature which is a temperature causing the decomposition of the component (B) or below (preferably ≤230°C). Furthermore, 5-40 pts.wt. component (B) and 1-20 pts.wt. component (C) are preferably blended with 100 pts.wt. component (A).
