NEW MATERIAL:An N-(2-benzothiazolylmethoxy)phenyl-N-methylurea shown by the formulaI(X is lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower haloalkyl, or halogen; n is 0W2; R is H, CH3, OCH3; the positions of two substituent groups in the benzene ring are m- or p-positions).
EXAMPLE: N-4-(2-benzothiazolylmethoxy)phenyl-N'-methoxy-N'-methylurea.
USE: A selective herbicide. Having high selectivity for important crops such as wheat, maize, rice plant, soybean, cotton, etc., exhibiting strong herbicidal effect on many weeds both by soil treatment and foliar treatment.
PROCESS: An N-hydroxyphenyl-N'-methylurea shown by the formula II is reacted with a 2-chloromethylbenzothiazole shown by the formula III in an organic solvent in the presence of a dehydrohalogenating agent such as preferably sodium ethylate, etc. to give a compound shown by the formulaI.
