PURPOSE: To generate an electronic telephone directory by providing a means recording entered character and numeral onto a recording medium, a means reading the recorded character and numeral, and a means displaying the read character and numeral onto a large sized display device in the system.

CONSTITUTION: When a character or a numeral or the like is entered from a key pad 22, a series of operation is controlled by a controller 19 and a sub controller 23 and inputted information is recorded on a recording medium 24 as a database. Furthermore, a pen input device 25 allows pen entry of data. When data retrieval is an object, the entry of retrieval character or retrieval numeral or the like is awaited, the database is retrieved based thereon, and the result of retrieval is displayed on a large sized display device 21. When data registration is an object, the entry of retrieval character or retrieval numeral or the like is awaited, the registration propriety is checked based thereon, the data are registered in the database and the registered content is displayed on the display device 21.
