PURPOSE: To obtain a television controller having the capacity for turning surely off a power supply by detecting a synchronizing signal in a television signal and turning off the power supply for a television receiver when no synchronizing signal exists to eliminate the need for timer operation.

CONSTITUTION: In turning on the power supply of the television receiver, the synchronizing signal 24 is separated from an input television signal 21 by a synchronizing signal separation circuit 22. While the synchronizing signal 24 is detected, the controller 23 keeps the power supply of the television receiver 1 holds on state. When the television signal 21 is lost after the end of broadcast, since an output of the synchronizing separation circuit 22 is lost, the control circuit 23 turns off the power supply of the television receiver 1 after a fixed time when the synchronizing signal output 24 is lost.
