Abstract:

PURPOSE: To efficiently decompose fluorocarbons by crushing the waste from a refrigerator contg. fluorocarbons in a closed vessel to collect the fluorocarbons, adding air to the fluorocarbons to specify the concn., adding steam to the mixture, which is heated, catalytically decomposing the fluorocarbons, neutralizing the decomposed gas and discharging the netralized gas.

CONSTITUTION: An air converter 17 as a waste is crushed into small metallic pieces 18 by a shredder in a closed vessel and stored B2 in a hopper. The generated gaseous fluorocarbon 8 is sucked out by a sucker and diluted B3 with air 9 to a 10% concn. The concn.-adjusted gaseous fluorocarbon 8 is mixed with steam 11 by 5 mols per mol of the fluorocarbon and supplied B4 to a heater. The heated gaseous fluorocarbon 8 is sent into a catalytic reaction tower packed with titania to decompose the fluorocarbon B5. The decomposed gas 13 is blown into an aq. alkaline sodium hydroxide soln. to neutralize the acid component which is made harmless B6. The fluorocarbon concn. in the gas freed from the acid component and consisting of the air saturated with carbon dioxide and steam is measured B7, and the gas is discharged as a waste gas 14.
