PURPOSE: To input characters in KANJI (Chinese character) only through the operation of selection keys, and to shorten necessary time, by performing the KANJI input in the same method with a Japanese dictionary, and displaying relative KANJI and words and phrases as a KANJI list.

CONSTITUTION: A Chinese character library 3 contains basic words and characters connected possibly before and behind them, namely, a group of prefixes and a group of suffixes for the basic words and a group of terminations of words such as postpositional words as auxiliaries to main words and auxiliary verbs in the form of a KANJI list. A display device 4 is provided with a display part 4a for a document and a KANJI list display part 4b. An input document is displayed at the display part 4a and when HIRAGANA (cursive form of Japanese syllabary) which corresponds to a basic word is inputted, a corresponding KANJI list is displayed automatically at the display part 4b. Then, a necessary character in the KANJI list is selected with a selection key to change display at a corresponding part in the document at the display part 4a into said input word or phrase.
