PURPOSE: To enable the opening of a latch of a knitting needle free from old stitch at arbitrary plural positions in the direction of knitting width of a needle bed in a latch opener of a carriageless knitting machine and improve the productivity of knitted fabric with the knitting machine.

CONSTITUTION: This latch openers 1a, 1b of a carriageless weft knitting machine 1 are positioned by extending plate members 2a, 2b over the whole knitting width of needle beds 3a, 3b. The tip end of the plate member 2a is positioned on the moving orbit of a latch 11b of a knitting needle 12b advancing from the opposite needle bed 3b.
