PURPOSE: To stack and store a number of articles having any shape by elevating and sinking rack units between positions below and above the conveying surface of a conveying unit, wherein the conveying surface of the conveying unit is arranged as not interfering with the placing part of each rack unit.

CONSTITUTION: Articles 4 are inserted into an accommodation device from outside a vehicle and placed on rollers 11, 12 (roller surfaces flush with conveying surface SR) of a roller conveyor unit 6. When a drive unit is operated so that chains 8A-8D are lifted, the rack unit 7A in the uppermost stage is hung up while its horizontal attitude is held. When the rack unit 7A is passing the roller surfaces SR, the articles 4 placed on the roller surfaces SR are scooped up by a plurality of rods 16 as the placing surface 17 of the rack unit 7A. Then the articles are fed one by one onto the roller surfaces SR, and other rack units 7B-7F are alike raised, and the articles 4 are loaded also on these units 7B-7F.
